Of the 24 dog parks and dog-friendly areas in Fairfield County, CT eight of them are dog-friendly areas. This means they are neither fenced-in nor entirely dedicated to dogs.
Two of my favorites are dog-friendly beaches… Compo Dog Beach, in Westport, CT and Jennings Dog Beach in Fairfield, CT. Dogs aren’t allowed on the beaches during high season in the summertime (usually from Memorial Day to Labor Day), but in early autumn, dogs can run free. Dogs can roam to their heart’s content on the sand as well as jump right into the surf to swim and fetch toys. Both places are beautiful!
The other six places — Lake Mohegan Park, Mianus River Park, Cranbury Park, Norwalk Green, Tarrywile Park and Webb Mountain Park — are all dog-friendly hiking trails around acres and acres of beautiful countryside. Lake Mohegan has a gorgeous lake. Mianus River Park has great hiking trails and plenty of dog traffic. Cranbury Park has well-cared-for hiking trails and a dedicated dog-park section with waste bins, benches and poop bags. Norwalk Green has a beautiful, well-manicured area to walk your dog. Tarrywile Park has 21 miles of hiking trails. And Webb Mountain Park is a beautiful remote area with deep-woods trails. They’re all unique, beautiful and worth the trip.
